Database Development

Schema design, stored procedures, query tuning and maintenance for Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL databases.

Two reports that disagree, an import that doubles a customer list, an order screen that stalls at month end: each of these can start in the schema, the indexes or the queries, or in application code, concurrency, caching or an integration. IKRC investigates problems like these with the database evidence in hand before deciding where the fix belongs.

IKRC designs and maintains databases on Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL, and builds the parts that live inside them:

  • Tables, keys and constraints that reject data breaking the defined rules at the point of entry
  • Stored procedures, views and scheduled jobs for imports, exports and archiving
  • Query and index tuning based on measured execution history
  • Schema changes written as versioned scripts, so they can be reviewed and repeated in each environment

On SQL Server 2022 and later, Query Store is on by default for newly created databases. It records query plans and runtime statistics over time, which can show which query slowed down after a release or an upgrade. Databases restored or upgraded from older versions keep their previous Query Store setting, so on an inherited system its current setting is worth checking early.

For edition, upgrade and administration questions, see Microsoft SQL Server.
